Beauprez Selected by Red Sox in 25th Round
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami signee and Cherry Creek High standout Derik Beauprez was the fifth Hurricane selected in the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
Beauprez, a 6-foot-5, 215-pound two-way star and Cherry Hills Village, Colo., native, was picked in the 25th round (No. 743 overall) by the Boston Red Sox.
Beauprez, who pitched and played first base during his high school career, boasts an impressive pitching arsenal that includes a fastball in the low to mid 90’s as well as a curveball and changeup. He guided Cherry Creek to a Class 5A championship as a junior, and was ranked the No. 2 senior in the state of Colorado.
Known for his outstanding bat and commanding presence on the mound, Beauprez was ranked No. 128 in Perfect Game’s Top 500 high school rankings.
