DiMare Named Baseball Recruiting Coordinator
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami assistantbaseball coach Gino DiMare has been appointed recruiting coordinator, headcoach Jim Morris announced Monday.
“This new title is very similar to the role he had previously,”Coach Morris said. “He has proven himself in the past, and I expect him to do agreat job once again.”
DiMare’s impact on the team since rejoining the coachingstaff is already evident. Collegiate Baseball named the Hurricanes’incoming class ninth-best in the country, while Baseball America ratedit No. 10. 2012 marked the first season Miami’s recruiting class cracked BaseballAmerica‘s top 10 since 2006.
DiMare’saccomplishments on the recruiting scene during his first nine years in the samecapacity were impressive. The team’s 2001 class was rated among the top fivenationally, while the 2003 class was ranked among the top 15 nationally. Thelatter group included Ryan Braun, the 2005 ACC Player of the Year, and Cesar Carrillo, theACC’s Pitcher of the Year that same season. Braun and Carrillo were bothselected in the first round of Major League Baseball’s 2005 First-Year PlayerDraft.
UM’s 2008recruiting class, which was targeted primarily by DiMare, was ranked second by CollegiateBaseball and fifth by Baseball America prior to the 2007 season. Hehas recruited the likes of Braun (Milwaukee), Gaby Sanchez (Pittsburgh), ChrisPerez (Cleveland), Jon Jay (St. Louis), Yonder Alonso (San Diego) and JemileWeeks (Oakland), all of whom have reached the big leagues in recent years.
“Recruiting is the heartbeat of our program,” Morris added.”I’m extremely confident in Gino and his ability to handle responsibilities asrecruiting coordinator.”
