Miami Men's Tennis Summer Recap
The University of Miami men’s tennis team was active this summer, playing in tournaments around the globe. Below, check out some highlights from the Hurricanes’ summer.
Senior Mark Schanerman won this year’s ITA Summer Circuit event held at UNC Chapel Hill. Seeded fifth overall in a field of 128, Schanerman defeated second-seeded Kyle Koch of USC in the final to claim the title.
Senior Victor Mauz traveled back to his home country of France to compete in seven tournaments. While there, he collected three wins over minus 15 ranked French players and four wins over minus 15 ranked individuals.
While in his home country of Brazil, sophomore Henrique Tsukamoto participated in the ITF Futures F16 event in Jundiai, Brazil. In the 32-person event, he won his first-round match, earning another ATP World Tour point, but was defeated in the Round of 16.
Sophomore Wilfredo Gonzalez traveled to Mexico to compete in the ITF Futures F8 Tournament and also helped his team win the Davis Cup Group III with Team Guatemala in Tobago, Trinidad & Tobago. While participating in the Futures Mexico F8 tournament, Gonzalez won three qualifying matches, but lost in three sets in the first round of the event. In doubles, Gonzalez and his Mexican teammate defeated a pair from Guatemala in the first round, but lost to a Serbian/Austrian duo in the quarterfinals. In Tobago, Gonzalez was one of five players on the Guatemalan team, defeating Aruba in doubles to help his country take home the championship.
Native Floridian and incoming freshman Jack Murphy competed in two separate ITA Summer Classics. At the ITA Summer Classic in Tallahassee, Murphy advanced to the Round of 16 and at the ITA Summer Classic in Gainesville, he played in the Round of 32.
