June 18, 2012
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – All three seniors from the 2011-12 University of Miami men’s basketball team – DeQuan Jones, Malcolm Grant and Ryan Quigtar – are currently pursuing careers in professional basketball.
Jones, who participated in the NCAA Slam Dunk Championship in March, has worked out with the Los Angeles Lakers and is preparing for his court sessions with the Detroit Pistons and Milwaukee Bucks this week.
“I’m just enjoying the experience as well as this whole process,” said Jones about his quest to play professional basketball.
Grant, Miami’s three-point specialist, participated in a tryout with a team from Israel and is currently training in Miami while setting up appointments with three NBA squads.
“I’ve been working out every day, trying to perfect my craft,” said Grant. “I’m extremely excited to see what my next step is as I embark on a professional career in basketball.”
A former walk on at UM, Quigtar is currently playing in the Jamal Crawford Summer Pro-Am, where he is on the Bulls team, comprised of 10 players from colleges such as University of Washington, Boise State and University of Idaho. He is also continuing to explore his options of playing overseas.
“I’m excited to play with all of the NBA guys this summer, it’s going to be fun,” said Quigtar. “Seattle has a lot of talent and I’m excited to be a part of this showcase.”
