CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The No. 8 University of Miami Hurricanes return to the diamond Wednesday to square off against in-state foe Florida Atlantic University. First pitch for the game against the Owls is set for 6 p.m. from Alex Rodriguez Park.

The Hurricanes, undefeated through their first seven games for the first time since 2005, are looking for a strong showing against the visiting Owls (6-1). FAU took two of three games from the Hurricanes last season, including a 7-4 loss last time out in Coral Gables on May 17.

The Owls, off to a hot start in 2012, swept Alabama on their road trip to Tuscaloosa on Opening Weekend. They followed up their sweep of ‘Bama by taking three of four from Manhattan this past weekend, bolstering their record to its current 6-1 standing.

“They’ve got a very solid club,” Head Coach Jim Morris said of the Owls. “I know we better be ready to play and not look ahead. We have to be ready every single game.”

Pitching for FAU will once again be junior righthander Jake Meiers, who took the mound for the final two contests between the two teams in 2011. Meiers, who earned the win in Game Two against Alabama with a six-inning performance, is 1-0 with a 1.04 ERA.

The Owls will be facing a familiar opponent in junior lefty Steven Ewing (1-0, 0.00 ERA), who will take the mound for the Canes on Wednesday night. Ewing, who went 1-2 against the Owls in 2011, earned his first victory of the year in the Canes’ 3-0 shutout of Florida Gulf Coast last Wednesday.
