Miami Baseball Mourns Loss of Former Player

Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami baseball team is sad to announce the passing of former Hurricanes player Tomas “Tommy” Gil, who lost his life Sunday, Oct. 16 in Miami.
The former outfielder for the Hurricanes played under legendary head coach Ron Fraser from 1978-81.
Gil, a graduate of UMiami in 1981, passed away suddenly Sunday when he was overcome by toxic fumes in a manhole he entered while attempting to make repairs to a septic area connected to a nearby restaurant, “Esthers”. He was taken to North Shore Hospital where he later passed away.
Gil was co-owner of Esther’s Restaurant located at 877 Northwest 103rd Street in Miami.
Gil is survived by his wife, Diana, two children and two grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service at Dade Christian in nearby Hialeah on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 6:30 p.m.
