Canes In the Pros: June Update

Canes In the Pros: June Update

July 5, 2011

Coral Gables, Fla. – The month of June was yet another very busy month for several former University of Miami Hurricanes baseball players, including Jemile Weeks’ first career game in the MLB for the Oakland Athletics on June 7. Ryan Braun of the Milwaukee Brewers extended his hitting streak to 20 games, and Chris Perez of the Cleveland Indians amassed his American League (AL) leading 16th save of the year.

In the minors, several Hurricanes made moves – including Blake Tekotte after a two-week stint with the San Diego Padres in the MLB, moving back down on an option to the Double-A San Antonio Missions.

Six of the seven 2011 Canes that were drafted inked professional contracts in mid-June, including Nathan Melendres and Daniel Miranda who each went to work right away in helping their respected teams.
