Several Changes On Latest Depth Chart
March 22, 2011
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — With Spring Break and three spring practices in the rearview mirror, the Miami football program announced a new depth chart heading into the second week of practices.
The Canes will be on the field at 2:15 p.m. and the depth chart below is how they will line up:
Offensive Notes:
> The Canes have new No. 1s at quarterback, wide receiver and running back. Jacory Harris, who has started a bevy of games for UM, is No. 1 at quarterback followed by Stephen Morris and Spencer Whipple. Sophomore RB Storm Johnson has earned the No. 1 role on the depth chart and is followed by fellow fan-favorites Lamar Miller and Mike James. Team leader LaRon Byrd is No. 1 at the one of the wide receiver positions with Travis Benjamin opposite of him.
> There was little movement on the offensive line but clearly there are some heated battles going on at left tackle and left guard. Coach Golden denoted an or between the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, which illustrates the battle between Malcolm Bunche and Seantrel Henderson at left tackle and Brandon Linder and Harland Gunn at left guard.
Look Back: March 4 Depth Chart
Defensive Notes:
> Sophomore Eduardo Clements, who played primarily on special teams in 2010, has moved from running back to corner back.
> Ray-Ray Armstrong is back at the lead spot, which he held down for much of 2010, at strong safety. Armstrong was limited at the beginning of spring ball but is now back to full participation. He is joined at the top of the depth chart by true-freshman CB Thomas Finnie, junior FS Vaughn Telemaque and senior CB JoJo Nicolas. Finnie continues to be a great story, considering he was playing in the high school playoffs just four months ago.
> At linebacker, your No. 1 group is Travis Williams, Jimmy Gaines and Sean Spence with Jordan Futch moving from middle to outside since the announcement of the last depth chart.
> The only change on the leaders at defensive line was Andrew Smith moving up to No. 1, surpassing Shayon Green. Additionally, Olivier Vernon has moved into the No. 2 spot at defensive end, while true-freshman Olsen Pierre has moved from end to the interior.
