UM Baseball's Jim Morris Returning to the Dugout
March 8, 2011
Coral Gables, Fla. – Missing the last six games for the University of Miami baseball team following surgery to remove his gall bladder on Friday, Feb. 25, head coach Jim Morris is set to return to the Hurricanes dugout tonight when UM faces Illinois State inside Alex Rodriguez Park at 6 p.m.
Morris, now in his 18th season coaching the Miami baseball team, has missed a total of seven games this year due to illness – eventually leading to surgery to remove his gall bladder. He has missed the last six consecutive for the Hurricanes, with assistant coach/pitching coach J.D. Arteaga coaching the team in Morris’ absence. After spending more than a week in the hospital recovering from the surgery and an infection stemming from that, Morris was released to his home in nearby Coconut Grove on Thursday, March 3.
This will be Morris first game in the Hurricanes dugout since the opening game of a three-game series against Appalachian State on Thursday, Feb. 24. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance midway through that contest for what would eventually be the surgery.
