Jan. 28, 2011

Greensboro, N.C. – The University of Miami baseball team has been predicted to finish third in the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference Coaches Preseason Poll, as announced Friday, Jan. 28, from the ACC offices in Greensboro, N.C. The poll is voted on by the league’s 12 head coaches.

Capturing a 20-10 league record in 2010, the Hurricanes finished the year third in the Coastal Division behind Virginia and Georgia Tech, respectively. Miami posted a 43-20 overall record en route to claiming the NCAA Coral Gables Regional title, and advancing to the NCAA Gainesville Super Regional.

Clemson received the nod as the 2011 Atlantic Coast Conference preseason favorite. The Tigers were picked to finish atop the ACC’s Atlantic Division on eight ballots and were named as the overall conference favorite by seven coaches.

Nine coaches selected Virginia to repeat as ACC Coastal Division champion, while Georgia Tech received two first-place votes and Miami one. Four coaches cast first-place votes for Florida State in the Atlantic Division.

Teams were awarded six points for each first-place vote, five points for each second-place vote, etc., in determining the predicted order of finish for each division.

Nine ACC players have been named to 2011 preseason All-America teams, including UM junior third baseman Harold Martinez, named to the Louisville Slugger Third Team back in December.
