Bianca Eichkorn named Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week

Bianca Eichkorn (Jr., Tengen, Germany), currently ranked No. 99 in the Campbell’s/ITA singles poll, has been named this week’s Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week. 

Eichkorn, a 2009 ITA All-American, turned in three singles victories, while taking two-of-three doubles wins over the weekend as part of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Madison, Wis.  She began the weekend with a three-set win (3-6, 7-6, 7-6) victory over UCLA’s Andrea Remynse (No. 41), while teaming with Anna Bartenstein for an 8-5 triumph over the Bruins’ duo of Nina Pantic and Noelle Hickey in No. 2 doubles play.  The following day against No. 16 Michigan, Eichkorn continued her winning ways with a straight-set defeat of the Wolverines’ Rika Tatsuno (6-3, 6-1) at the second singles position, before coming back in the final day of the tournament to gain a three-set decision (4-6, 7-5, 6-3) over Nadja Gilchrist (No. 57) of fourth-ranked Georgia.  She also picked up another doubles wins with Bartenstein at the second spot, earning an 8-3 win over UGA’s Yvette Hyndman and Cameron Ellis.

All of Eichkorn’s wins came at the second singles position, with the two wins in doubles competition coming via the No. 2 spot as well.

On the year, Eichkorn is 12-4 overall (7-0 in the spring).  She has also registered wins in nine of her last 10 matches, and has now won eight consecutive dating back to the final round of the Michigan Invitational in late January.
