W. Tennis Wraps Season in NCAA Second Round
AUBURN, Ala. – The University of Miami women tennis team (15-8, 8-4 ACC) fell, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon to the No. 1 ranked and second-seeded Auburn Tigers (34-3, 13-2 SEC) in the NCAA Second Round at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
The Tigers controlled the doubles point as they opened with Ashton Bowers and Ekaterina Khairutdinova took court three, 6-1, over Jaquelyn Ogunwale and Maria Vargas. To claim the opening point, the No. 2 ranked pair of DJ Bennett and Ava Esposito defeated Raquel Gonzalez and Dominika Podhajecka, 6-1, at the top court.
Auburn then notched three straight courts in singles to advance. No. 115 Podhajecka fell 6-2, 6-2 to No. 58 Bowers on court five, Scilipoti dropped court three, 6-3, 6-2, to No. 55 Angell Okutoyi and No. 67 Rocchetti fell, 6-3, 6-4 to No. 31 Khairutdinova on court two.
The Hurricanes wrap their season with the program’s 39th NCAA Championships appearance, one All-ACC honoree and a top-10 win.
