Dec. 2, 2010

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Five University of Miami student-athletes have been named to Phil Steele’s Postseason All-ACC First Team, as announced by Phil Steele Publications on Thursday.

Wide receiver Leonard Hankerson, offensive guard Brandon Washington, linebacker Sean Spence, cornerback Brandon Harris and punter Matt Bosher all earned first team conference honors, while 12 other `Canes earned either second, third or fourth team honors.

Second team honors went out to running back Damien Berry, offensive tackle Orlando Franklin, defensive end Allen Bailey, linebacker Colin McCarthy and safety Ray-Ray Armstrong while third team honors went to center Tyler Horn and offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson.

Running back Lamar Miller, offensive lineman Jermaine Johnson, defensive end Olivier Vernon, cornerback Ryan Hill and safety Vaughn Telemaque all garnered fourth-team honors.

Hankerson is coming off one of, if not the most productive season for a wide receiver in school history. His 12 touchdown catches this season is a Miami record, breaking Michael Irvin’s mark of 11 set in 1986. In the Hurricanes’ regular season finale, Hankerson became just the third player in program history to record a 1,000-yard receiving season and the first to have 2,000 yards for a career and 1,000 yards in a season.

Washington had a break-out year as Miami’s primary right guard, winning ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week twice this season while grading out above 90 percent in all but one of Miami’s games.

Harris had another standout year as the `Canes lockdown corner, tying for a team-best eight pass break-ups on a defense that ranks third in a country in both pass defense and pass efficiency defense. On the year, Harris has 41 tackles and one interception.

Spence reached the 100-tackle mark for the first time in his career this year, making 101 stops and a team-best 17.0 tackles for loss in 12 games. Ranking second on the team and fifth in the ACC with an 8.3 tackles per game average, Spence also finished the regular season with 2.5 sacks, six pass break-ups and two forced fumbles.

Bosher led the ACC in punting in conference games with an average of 44.7 yards per boot. On the year, he averaged 44.3 yards per punt, with 17 of 50 or more yards and 19 inside the 20-yard line.
