Coral Gables, Fla. – Freshman infielder Brad Fieger went 4-for-5 at the dish, including the game-winning single in the bottom of the 11th inning, to lead the Green Team past the Orange Team, 8-7, in the second game of the Fourth Annual Orange & Green Fall World Series on Fri., Nov. 5, at Alex Rodriguez Park on the University of Miami campus.

With the score tied at three heading into the 11th inning, Orange abruptly took the lead, 4-3 following a walk and two hits. Orange quickly added to its 4-3 advantage after a single and a double, using a Zach Robinson (Miami, Fla.) bases-loaded double to put the three-time defending champs on top, 7-3. Robinson finished having a great day for Orange, with teammate David Villasuso (Miami, Fla.) registering two hits and a RBI in the game.

With one out in the bottom of the 11th frame, Green kick-started the comeback with a hit from sophomore infielder Michael Broad (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) to cut into the Orange lead, 7-5. Broad finished the day a homerun shy of the cycle, going 3-of-5 at the plate.

Following an error charged to the Orange infield, Green capitalized with two runs following a double to right field, knotting the game at 7-all with runners on the corners. At that point, Brad Fieger (Naples, Fla.) stepped into the batter’s box looking for the game-winning hit. Fieger appropriately picked up his fourth hit, finishing the day 4-for-5 with a RBI, plating sophomore Cade Kreuter (Newhall, Calif.) for the winning score.

Fieger was named the Big Cheese Player of the Game with his play at the plate and in the field, also seeing an inning of action on the hill, tossing a scoreless frame with two strikeouts.

Green trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth before tying the game on an error by the pitcher on a failed pickoff attempt at third base, allowing the runner to cross home plate easily.

In the contest, Orange scored seven runs on 10 hits with four errors, while Green scored eight runs on 14 hits and three errors.

The series will continue at Alex Rodriguez Park with Game Three set for Tues., Nov. 9, at 3 p.m. The projected starters for both teams are E.J. Encinosa (Soph., RHP) for Orange, and Steven Ewing (Soph., LHP) for Green. Ewing went seven scoreless innings on the mound for Green in Game One, allowing just one hit on his way to earning FMS Bonds Player of the Game accolades from UM 18th-year head coach Jim Morris.

Admission to the entire series is free, and fans are encouraged to come out and support the `Canes.

Following this year’s series, the Hurricanes will close out their 2010 fall season with continued practice sessions and the end-of-fall Pro Scout day on Saturday, Nov. 20, beginning at 10 a.m. at Alex Rodriguez Park. A team scrimmage will follow at 10:45 a.m.
