2010 Louisville Slugger All-America Teams
TUSCON, Ariz. – University of Miami juniors Yasmani Grandal and Chris Hernandez have been named to the 2010 Louisville Slugger All-America Team, as announced by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper on Thursday. Grandal earned first team honors while Hernandez was named to the third team.
The All-America honor is the first of Grandal’s career, while Hernandez earned numerous All-America honors as a freshman in 2008.
Grandal is having one of the most successful offensive seasons in the history of Miami baseball. He leads the Atlantic Coast Conference in hitting (.422), on-base percentage (.545) and slugging percentage (.754), while ranking second in walks (52) and doubles (22). His .422 average ranks among the greatest single season marks in school history, while his .994 fielding percentage is among the best in the nation at his position. He ranks second on the team in homers (14) and RBI (56), while ranking third in runs scored (50).
In addition to earning Louisville Slugger first team honors, Grandal has also recently been named the 2010 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year as well as a Johnny Bench finalist and a Golden Spikes Award semifinalist.
Hernandez ranks third among all ACC pitchers in ERA (3.02) and strikeouts (95), while ranking fifth in wins (8) and seventh in opponent’s batting average against (.236). In 16 starts this season, Hernandez has allowed three earned runs or less 14 times, including eight starts of one earned run or less. In his three-year career, he is 26-8 with a 3.44 ERA and 305 strikeouts in 292 2/3 innings of work.
ACC Pitcher of the Year Danny Hultzen (Virginia) was the other first team honoree for the ACC in addition to Grandal. Florida State outfielder Tyler Holt was named to the second team while six other ACC players in addition to Hernandez were selected for the third team – Georgia Tech’s Deck McGuire, Florida State’s Mike McGee, Virginia’s Kevin Arico, Georgia Tech’s Tony Plagman, Virginia second baseman Phil Gosselin and NC State second baseman Dallas Pouk.
