Miami (7-3) began the match by claiming the doubles point courtesy consecutive wins in all three positions. FIU (8-6) was unable to keep up as the Golden Panthers had their three-match winning streak snapped. In the process, the Hurricanes jumped their streak to four wins consecutively.

Miami’s team of Bianca Eichkorn and Laura Vallverdu stepped off the courts first, taking an 8-4 win from FIU’s Liset Brito and Maria Vallasciani at the top flight doubles spot. That was followed by the `Canes Gabriela Mejia and Danielle Mills turning in an 8-4 score at the No. 2 position, defeating Christine Seredni and Maria Spenceley of FIU.

The final doubles decision came from UM’s duo of Claudia Wasilewski and Anna Bartenstein, with the team posting an 8-6 win over Priscilla Castillo and Magali Holt at the No. 3 position.

In singles play, UM freshman Danielle Mills improved her record for the year to 12-8 (7-2 dual) by becoming the first Hurricanes player finished, as she posted a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over FIU’s Magali Holt at the No. 5 spot. She was followed by UM All-American junior Bianca Eichkorn (No. 40) finishing Christine Seredni with a straight-set decision (6-1, 6-3) at No. 2 singles. Miami’s three-time All-American and fourth-ranked senior Laura Vallverdu kept the sweep intact at the first position, defeating Liset Brito (No. 87) in straight sets (6-3, 6-2). Vallverdu upped her record to 20-8 on the season, giving her 20 wins in each of her four years in Coral Gables, as she has now won five consecutive matches dating back to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Madison, Wis.

Sophomore Gabriela Mejia added to the Miami advantage, 6-0, when she posted her fourth-straight win courtesy a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over FIU’s Priscilla Castillo at the No. 4 position. Mejia is now 9-1 in her last 10 matches for the `Canes, and sits 15-3 (9-1 dual) on the 2009-10 campaign.
