Madison, Wis. – The 12th-ranked UCLA Bruins collected the doubles point and three singles positions to claim a 4-3 upset win over the No. 6 Miami Hurricanes in women’s tennis action Friday evening, as part of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships at the A.C. Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wis.

UCLA (6-0) opened the doubles matches with an 8-2 decision at the third flight, as the Bruins’ Carling Seguso and Andrea Remynse claimed the victory over Miami’s Danielle Mills and Claudia Wasilewski. Miami (3-2) evened things up at the second position when the `Canes Anna Bartenstein and Bianca Eichkorn staked an 8-5 triumph over UCLA’s Nina Pantic and Noelle Hickey.

The Bruins claimed the all-important doubles point at the number one position when the 10th-ranked duo of Yasmin Schnack and Andrea Remynse took a hard-fought 9-7 upset win from Miami’s third-ranked team of Gabriela Mejia and Laura Vallverdu.

In singles play, Miami got off to a slow start before turning things around in the end.

UCLA’s Pamela Montez started things off at the fourth position, collecting a straight-set win (6-2, 6-3) from the Hurricanes’ Danielle Mills. For Mills, the loss was the first of its kind in the spring, dropping the Bradenton, Fla., native to 4-1 on the campaign. She falls to 9-7 overall on the year.

UCLA jumped up, 3-0, in the match courtesy a three-set thriller at the sixth position. That’s where the Bruins’ Maya Johansson defeated the `Canes Claudia Wasilewski – 6-4, 5-7, 6-1. Wasilewski evened her record for the spring at 2-2, and falls to 9-7 on the 2009-10 campaign.

The Bruins claimed the match victory at the next spot, using No. 5 Yasmin Schnack’s 7-5, 6-4, defeat of Miami’s three-time All-American senior Laura Vallverdu (No. 7) at the top singles position. Vallverdu drops her record to 2-2 on the spring, and 15-8 mark on the campaign. The Valencia, Venezuela native is now an even 7-7 against nationally ranked foes, facing her first Top 5 opponent on the season in the form of Schnack.

Miami got on the board in the No. 2 singles spot where junior All-American Bianca Eichkorn (No. 99) turned in a 3-6, 7-6, 7-6 defeat of UCLA’s Andrea Remynse (No. 41). Eichkorn’s win keeps her record for the spring clean at 5-0, improving to 10-4 overall on the season.

The Hurricanes made it 4-2 in the next match courtesy sophomore Anna Bartenstein posting a 7-6, 2-6, 10-5 win over UCLA’s Noelle Hickey. Bartenstein bounced back from a loss against Baylor last weekend to score her 14th win of the year, improving to 14-3 on the season.

The final match closed in the fifth position, bringing the `Canes to the final 4-3 decision, using sophomore Gabriela Mejia (No. 93) for a 7-6, 6-3 triumph of the Bruins’ Nina Pantic. Mejia registered her 11th win of the year, pushing her record to 11-2 overall – and 5-0 on the spring season.
