Dec. 26, 2009
ORLANDO – The 14th-ranked University of Miami football team had a busy day in Orlando on Saturday, starting with an early morning practice and ending with the team’s shopping spree at Best Buy in the early evening hours.
The Hurricanes held their second practice on Thunder Field at the Florida Citrus Bowl Sports Complex, working for just under two hours in cool conditions with temperatures in the lower 50’s.
Following practice, the team spent time in the weight room and after a quick break for lunch, left the team’s headquarters for an afternoon at nearby Universal Studios.
The `Canes spent a couple hours on the grounds that hold both Universal Studios and Island of Adventure, riding roller coasters, playing games and soaking in the holiday atmosphere at the theme park.
From there, the team went straight to an Orlando area Best Buy, where the players and staff went on a shopping spree as part of the bowl gift for participating teams in the Champs Sports Bowl.
After the shopping spree, the `Canes had the rest of Saturday night to themselves. Sunday morning the team will hold its final practice before holding a walk-through on Monday.
Also on Sunday, the `Canes will take part in a “Day for Kids”, an event where players spend time with more than 200 physically, emotionally and financially challenged children.
The 9-3 `Canes will be in search of the program’s first 10-win season since the 2003 season when they go up against the Badgers on Tuesday, Dec. 29 at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
