Tallahassee, Fla. – Freshman Danielle Mills and Sophomore Anna Bartenstein earned third place finishes on Sunday claiming singles wins as the University of Miami women’s tennis team concluded its weekend participation as part of the FSU Seminole Invitational at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center in Tallahassee, Fla.

Anna Bartenstein took her third place finish with a dominating 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Denver’s Sophia Bergner in the Gold Bracket of singles competition. Bartenstein finishes the fall campaign with a record of 7-2 in her first year with the UM program. Additionally, she finished the weekend sporting a 2-1 mark.

Mills, a freshman for the Hurricanes, finished the fall campaign with an even 4-4 record after claiming the third place title of the Silver Bracket in singles play. The Bradenton, Fla., native scored a 6-0, 6-2 victory from Furman’s Jennifer Betts in her last event of the fall for the `Canes.

Junior Bianca Eichkorn, a 2009 All-American ranked No. 6 in the ITA preseason poll, was also in action for the `Canes on Sunday. Eichkorn, hampered most of the fall with injury, finished her shortened fall campaign sporting a 3-3 record after falling at the hands of USF’s Irene Rehberger on Sunday (7-6, 3-6, 6-3). The match was one of the most exciting of the day, taking place in the third place match of the Garnet Bracket.

The only other singles match taking place for UM involved senior Claudia Wasilewski of Bolougne, France. Wasilewski walked off the court in her last fall match scoring a thrilling 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 three-set win over Furman’s Michele Stanford. Wasilewski, seeing most of her playing career in the No. 6 singles position for Miami, defeated the Paladins No. 3 singles player in Stanford.

Wasilewski concludes the fall season with a record of 6-3 overall.

The University of Miami will now take time off from competing and continue training for the upcoming spring dual-match season. The Hurricanes return to the court Jan. 16 when traveling to the Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The spring schedule for the Miami women’s tennis team will be posted to the Hurricanes athletics website in its entirety after completion by head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews, enjoying her ninth year at the helm in Coral Gables. The Hurricanes finished the 2009 season advancing to the NCAA Quarterfinals in College Station, Texas.
