Harold Martinez to Participate in Cape Cod Home Run Contest

HYANNIS, Mass. – University of Miami infielder Harold Martinez has been selected to participate in the 2009 Cape Cod Baseball League Home Run Hitting Contest July 23 at Fenway Park.

Martinez, an infielder for the Brewster Whitecaps, is one of six players participating in the event prior the league’s 47th Under Armour All-Star Game later in the evening.

In addition to Martinez, other East Division participants in the home run contest include Martinez’s Whitecaps teammate Jedd Gyorko, as well as Harwich’s Connor Power. The West will be represented by Falmouth’s Hunter Morris, Wareham’s Brett Eibner and Cotuit’s Kevin Patterson.

Fenway Park gates open at 3 p.m. on July 23 for the All-Star festivities. Batting practice and autograph sessions will take place until the Home Run Hitting Contest at 5:15 p.m. The 47th Under Armour All-Star Game gets underway at 7 p.m.

This past spring, Martinez hit nine homers and collected 47 RBI as a freshman for the Hurricanes.
