CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The 13th-ranked University of Miami baseball dropped its series finale at Boston College, 13-3, Sunday afternoon at Shea Field, a day after clinching its sixth Atlantic Coast Conference series win of the season.

Miami (31-16, 15-12 ACC) fell behind early on to Boston College (29-19, 12-13 ACC) as the Eagles scored four in the second and three more in the fourth before eventually pulling away for the 10-run win.

Boston College starter Pat Dean (5-3) earned the win. Dean tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and a walk while striking out seven before Mike Belfiore allowed three unearned runs over the final two innings.

UM starter Iden Nazario (5-3) suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs on five hits and four walks in 2 2/3 innings before Jason Santana came on in relief and allowed four runs on five hits in 2 1/3 innings. From there, Travis Miller held the Eagles hitless over the next two innings, redshirt freshman D.J. Swatscheno allowed five runs in first career appearance and Rene Guerra tossed a scoreless frame.

Chris Herrmann had four of UM’s nine hits on the day, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI.

Barry Butera went 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored for BC, while Belfiore finished 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored and Mickey Wiswall went 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored.

BC got on the board first for the third time in the series, scoring four runs in the bottom of the second to go up 4-0. Back-to-back singles by Anthony Melchionda and Robbie Anston scored Butera and Brad Zepenas for the first two runs before the next two came across on a grounder to second misplayed by Scott Lawson.

Two doubles, two singles and a sacrifice fly accounted for three more Boston College runs in the fourth, pushing the Eagles’ lead to 7-0 after four complete.

A walk, a wild pitch and a single to right-center by Wiswall in the sixth put the Eagles up eight.

Miami finally got on the board in the eighth with three runs, cutting BC’s lead to 8-3. With runners on the corners, Vickash Ramjit doubled to right to score Nathan Melendres for the first run before Herrmann’s fourth single of the day scored Ryan Jackson and Ramjit.
