Georgia Head Coach David Perno
(Opening statement): “That was the toughest game we’ve been in all year. Our kids fought like there was no tomorrow, kept battling and hanging in there and got it done in the end like they needed to. We’ve been able to deliver the big inning when we’ve needed to all year.”

(On Ryan Peisel’s performance): “It’s nothing new for Ryan. He’s been a staple in our program for three years, our heart and soul, and he played like it today.”

Georgia third baseman Ryan Peisel
(On not being satisfied with just one win): “This was the best win I’ve been a part of in my time at Georgia. We’ve been doing it all year – it’s not over until the last out. We battled the whole night. I have to tip my hat to Miami – that is the best team we’ve played all year. This is a huge for us to get that first win under our belts after going 0-2 last year… It’s a testament to how hard we played and how we are as a team.”

(On his thinking during his three big at-bats): “I was hoping to get a lot of text messages – either ‘Happy Birthday’ or ‘you blew it.’ We’re not trying to do anything special. My trainer told me before the game not to do anything I haven’t been doing all year. I don’t know if it was the birthday gods or not, but it worked out in the end.”

Georgia left fielder Lyle Allen
(On his game-tying hit in the ninth): “Coach told me to let the ball travel and just hang in there and put a good swing on it.”

Miami (Fla.) Head Coach Jim Morris
(opening statement): “First of all I’d like to congratulate Georgia. They’re a great club and did a great job coming back and battling. We need to swing the bat better with runners in scoring position. We had our backs against the wall last weekend vs. Arizona. We have to do the same thing again now.”

(about Gutierrez’s performance in last inning): “We felt we had them where we wanted them with a guy who has got it done all year. It’s not the best timing where it loses a game, but every reliever I’ve had has gone through this.”

(about whether he was happy with the offense): “No I wasn’t happy. We didn’t score enough runs. We didn’t get enough hits. We faced really good pitching.”

Miami (Fla.) first baseman Yonder Alonso
(about his solo home run that gave Miami the lead): “We thought we had the momentum there when I hit the home run. Things happen. We have to get ready for Monday and take care of business.

Miami (Fla.) second baseman Jemile Weeks
(about playing Florida State): “We faced Florida State in the regular season. It’s always an intense series. It’s the same type of situation, but there’s more on the line here. We plan on staying here for the long run.”

Miami (Fla.) centerfielder Blake Tekotte
(about Georgia’s pitching): “They have great arms out of the bullpen. We need to get to the starter. We didn’t do it as much as we would like to. We need to get hits with guys in scoring position.”
