Hurricanes Tabbed Second in ACC Preseason Poll

CORAL GABLES, <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Fla. – The Miami baseball team has been picked to finish second in the Atlantic Coast Conference Coastal Division in the 2008 ACC Baseball Coaches Preseason Poll, released by the conference.
Miami earned 59 points and recorded two first place votes. North Carolina is the favorite in the ACC Coastal Division after receiving 67 points. Virginia is picked third followed by Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Duke.
Florida State is the favorite in the ACC Atlantic Division after receiving 66 points. Clemson is a close second with 61 points while NC State, Wake Forest, Boston College and Maryland round out the division.
North Carolina also was the league’s overall favorite, garnering seven votes from the league’s coaches. FloridaState and Miami each earned two votes, while Virginia nabbed one.
Miami finished third in the Coastal Division last season with a 17-13 mark and earned the No. 5 seed in the 2007 ACC Tournament.
Miami opens its 2008 regular season Feb. 22-24 when the Hurricanes host Cincinnati for a three-game series at Mark Light Field. Miami’s first practice is Feb. 1 and is open to the public.
