Raben Named Eastern Division MVP in Cape Cod All-Star Game

WAREHAM, Mass. – – University of Miami rising junior right fielder Dennis Raben was named the most valuable player for the Eastern Division after leading the East All-Stars to a 3-2 win in the 45th annual Cape Cod All-Star game Saturday night in front of more than 5,500 fans and major league scouts at Clem Spillane Field in Wareham.

Raben, who is playing for the Orleans Cardinals this summer, produced what proved to be the winning run when he homered to right field. One hour before the all-star game started, Raben finished third in the home run hitting contest. He ended up going 1-for-3 with one RBI, one run scored and a walk in the game.

Fellow UM teammates Yonder Alonso and Blake Tekotte both played for the East All-Stars. Alonso went 1-for-3 with one run scored while Tekotte had two at-bats.

Alonso leads the Brewster Whitecaps this summer hitting .347 with 10 doubles, three home runs, 19 runs and 31 walks. He leads the league with a .478 on-base percentage and ranks second in the Cape with 43 hits.Raben continues to lead the league with 32 RBI while hitting .291 for the Cardinals. He is tied for fourth in the Cape in home runs (6) and slugging percentage (.520).

Tekotte leads the league with 19 stolen bases while hitting .246 with 32 hits for the Whitecaps. He also has a team-high 25 runs scored. He is second on the team in walks (24) and third in RBI (14).
