UM Baseball Ranked 2nd In Baseball America Preseason Poll

Jan. 5, 2007

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami baseball team, which had previously been ranked sixth in the upcoming preseason by Collegiate Baseball, has been chosen second in a 2007 preseason poll released by Baseball America.

“It is always good to have the Hurricanes’ baseball program recognized by the media who cover the sport,” said UM head baseball coach Jim Morris. “I am very excited about the upcoming season and the potential this club has despite losing seven players from last year’s team to the Major League Baseball draft. We have a challenge ahead of us with the Atlantic Coast Conference again being extremely competitive and a very strong non-conference schedule.”

In addition to the Hurricanes being ranked second, the ACC also had five other teams ranked in the top 20–Clemson third, North Carolina fifth, Virginia ninth, Georgia Tech 12th and Florida State 18th.

Other ranked teams on the UM schedule are UCLA (13th), North Carolina State (28th) and Elon (44th).

The Hurricanes season begins with the annual Alumni Game at Mark Light Field on Saturday, January 27. First pitch is scheduled for 7pm. Prior to the Alumni Game, the Hurricanes will be hosting the Inaugural Baseball FanFest from 4-7pm. Open to the public, events at the FanFest will include an autograph session, homerun derby and interactive inflatables.

The regular season gets underway when UM hosts Mercer in a three-game series on February 2-4.

Season tickets, priced as low as $95, can be ordered by calling 1-800-GO-CANES or on line at www.hurricanesports.com.
