Hurricanes Announce 2007 Baseball Schedule

Oct. 20, 2006

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The 2007 University of Miami baseball schedule will feature 22 opponents and includes 10 NCAA Tournament teams from the 2006 season and 15 teams that posted winnings records a year ago. Thirty-six of the 55 regular-season games will be played at Mark Light Field in Coral Gables and the Hurricanes will play a total of 40 games in the state of Florida, as well as all of its ACC Tournament games.

Miami is coming off a 42-24 season (17-13 Atlantic Coast Conference) that ended with a dramatic postseason run and a fifth-place finish at the College World Series. The Hurricanes once again will play one of the toughest schedules in the NCAA in preparation for a NCAA-record 35th-straight postseason appearance.

“The ACC was the best conference in the country last year,” head coach Jim Morris said. “That alone makes this a tough schedule. Add in series with 2006 NCAA teams like UCLA, Elon, Wright State and the tough task of playing Florida on the road and the schedule becomes even tougher.

“Our schedule will be tough, but it will prepare us for where we want to go, just as it did last year.”

UM tunes up with the annual Alumni Game on Saturday, Jan. 27, before it opens the season with two-straight home series against Mercer (Feb. 2-4) and 2006 NCAA participant UCLA (Feb. 9-11). UM plays its only road games in February Feb. 16-18, at intra-state rival Florida.

The Hurricanes close out the majority of their non-conference schedule against Elon (Feb. 23-25), an exhibition game against the Florida Marlins in Jupiter on Feb. 27, and against Fordham (March 2-4), St. Bonaventure (March 6) and La Salle (March 7).

Miami’s conference slate is one of the toughest in the country and is highlighted by home series against Maryland (March 16-18), Georgia Tech (April 6-8), N.C. State (April 13-15), Florida State (April 27-29), and Duke (May 17-19).

Miami opens ACC play on the road against 2006 NCAA runner-up North Carolina (March 9-11) and will also travel to Virginia (March 23-25), Clemson (March 30-April 1), Virginia Tech (April 20-22) and Wake Forest (May 11-13).

Non-conference opponents are scattered throughout Miami’s season. The Hurricanes play host to 2006 America East Conference champions Maine (March 13), Rutgers (March 14), Florida International (April 4), North Florida (April 18) and Wright State (May 4-6). UM will complete its home-and-home series with FIU at University Park on April 11.

Miami’s television schedule will be released at a later date.
