Hurricanes Begin Third Week of Spring Practice
April 4, 2006
Coral Gables – The Hurricanes began their third week of spring practice, holding their eighth of 15 scheduled practices this afternoon at the Greentree Practice Fields.
“Today we did a lot of mental work and corrections,” said head coach Larry Coker, thinking back to last Saturday’s team scrimmage. “We’re coming. We’re coming along. But we need to move it along. We more than halfway to the spring game, so this is an important week for us and we have to finish strong next week.”
Coker added that the coaches have already installed “quite a bit” of the offense so far. “There’s several more things we want to take a look at, but we have quite a bit of it in. The things we liked last year that we kept, that was carried over. We still have some more to put in.”
Coker commented on the Saturday scrimmage, saying, “The scrimmage was good. The defense really made a lot of plays. I really liked the safeties and the linebackers. And the defensive tackles, Kareem Brown and Teraz McCray on the inside, the ends Bryan Pata and Baraka Atkins – they really did a nice job.”
Coker said that defensive end Rhyan Anderson has shoulder surgery on Monday and will be back for fall practice. Linebacker Willie Williams missed his fourth straight day of practice because of an illness.
The Hurricanes will practice again at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday at the Greentree Practice Fields. Hurricane season tickets are now on sale and can be purchased at www.hurricanesports.com or by calling 1-800-GO-CANES.
