Hurricanes close out home stand against Fordham and Manhattan
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami baseball team (16-6, 3-0 ACC) closes out its 16-game home stand with two mid-week non-conference games against Fordham and Manhattan on Tuesday and Wednesday. Miami plays host to Fordham at Mark Light Field on Tuesday, March 14, at 7 p.m., and will face Manhattan at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15.
The Hurricanes, winners of their last 10, have had past success against the Rams, winning all four previous meetings between the two programs. Fordham (3-10) looks to snap a six-game losing streak and get its first-ever win against Miami in five meetings.
Hurricane junior right-hander Ricky Orta (1-1, 3.32 ERA) will make his seventh appearance and third start of the season on Tuesday against the Rams. Orta earned a no-decision in his last start against Michigan State on March 8, giving up three hits and one run against the Spartans in a 9-4 win.
The Rams will send senior right-handed pitcher Craig Tscherednikov (0-1, 13.50 ERA) to the mound for his second start of the season. Tscherednikov also started a game on March 8, giving up five runs on two hits in five innings of work against Manhattan.
Redshirt freshman Jason Santana (0-1, 3.52 ERA) will make his first career start against the Jaspers on Wednesday. He will face Manhattan lefty Chris Cody (2-0, 0.00 ERA), who posted a 1-0 complete-game win against then 15th-ranked Tulane on March 3. In addition to starting Manhattan’s season on a winning note, Cody’s performance gave the Jaspers their first win against a ranked opponent in 20 years.
Miami is 11-3 during its home stand thus far.
The Hurricanes will travel to Duke for a three-game ACC series with the Blue Devils on March 17, 18 and 19 in Durham, N.C.
