The Miami Hurricanes are riding a three game win streak and have moved up slowly but steadily inthe polls. Next up for the surging Hurricanes are the Duke Blue Devils, who will visit the Orange Bowlat 3:30 p.m. Saturday in a nationally televised game on ESPNU.

Following a season-opening loss to Florida State, the Hurricanes have defeated Clemson, Coloradoand South Florida en route to a 3-1 record. This is the third of three consecutive home games for theHurricanes. Following the Duke game, they will travel to Temple, then return to the Orange Bowl for twomore home games and the start of a season-finishing five-game run against ACC opponents. This will be only the third meeting ever between the two schools, with each team having won onegame and neither team having won at home. In 1976, Duke won 20-7 in the Orange Bowl, and in1983, Miami won 56-17 at Duke. Duke is 1-4 this season and is coming off a 28-21 loss to Navy. Thisseason, the Blue Devils have defeated VMI and lost to East Carolina, Virginia Tech, Virginia andNavy.

This is Miami’s third conference game of the season. They are 1-1 in the ACC and tied for secondplace in the Coastal Division.

Last Saturday night, the Hurricanes defeated South Florida 27-7 after taking a 20-0 lead less than 18minutes into the game. Miami held USF to 174 total yards, 78 of them on the Bulls’ final drive of thegame against mostly backups. With six TDs this season, he ranks 34th in the NCAA, and he hasrushed for 369 yards in four games, ranking 34th in the country. Kyle Wright passed for 173 in his fourthcareer start. He would have had a touchdown pass in his fourth straight game, but TE Greg Olsen wasstripped of the ball on the six-yard line of what would have been a 63-yard pass-and-run.

With a new quarterback, the Miami offense has struggled somewhat. The offense ranks 64th nationallyin rushing, 77th in passing and 79th overall. However, the Hurricanes have scored in all 11 of theirlast 12 quarters. It’s the defense that is leading the way for Miami this season. The UM defense ranks14th overall in the country, first in defensive passing efficiency, 15th in pass defense and 25th in rundefense. UM ranks 11th in scoring defense, allowing 50 points in four games, 10 of those points comingin overtime. The defense is led by Brandon Meriweather, a junior safety who leads the team with 35tackles, and SLB Rocky McIntosh, who has regained his starting job and is second on the team with 29stops.

Duke is quarterbacked by freshman Zack Asack, who took over as the starter in the last game, asthe Blue Devils lost 28-21 to Navy after being tied late in the game. RB Justin Boyle has five rushingtouchdowns and leads the team with 277 yards on the ground.
