MISSISSIPPI STATE
Head Coach Ron Polk:
“It was tough day, it was really hot and it was taking its toll on (Starting Pitcher) Jon (Crosby). He may not want to admit it, but it got to him a little bit.”
“We didn’t necessarily want to use Brett Cleveland for three-and-two-thirds in this game, but we hate to lose a game like this. We’ll see if he’s available tonight.”
FLORIDA ATLANTIC
Head Coach Kevin Cooney
“Obviously our parade got rained on. We hit the ball pretty hard (but) we didn’t get too much out of it. Sometimes we get a lot out of it. We played hard but we came up short. I really felt good the whole game. Mike Crotta threw well and everybody got a lot of confidence. There wasn’t a point at which I though, unlike yesterday where I knew it would be difficult. There was a different attitude. Yesterday we didn’t look good at the plate; today we looked good at the plate and we hit the ball.
“It was a long season and we had a lot of young players. They battled hard with an eye toward continuing what Florida Atlanta had been doing since 1999. As for losing in Coral Gables again, if they keep asking us, we’ll keep coming.”
3B Tyler Stevens
(on going 4 for 4)
“This was my first regional and I was just excited to be here and play with the guys in a big situation like this. Me playing well was just that much better for me, but it’s bittersweet to go out like this. It was fun, a good experience. I don’t think there was any pressure. We didn’t have anything to lose.”
