Hurricanes Lose To Oral Roberts In 12 Innings, 4-3

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami dropped to 24-8 this season with a 4-3 loss to Oral Roberts (14-12) in 12 innings at Mark Light Field Saturday night.

Oral Roberts’ Brian Hanson scored from third base on UM reliever Danny Gil’s (1-3) wild pitch in the top of the 12th for the go-ahead run. Daniel Greenwalt (3-1) pitched seven innings of one-hit, 10-strikeout relief for the Golden Eagles to earn the win.

Paco Figueroa had two hits and Jon Jay went 1 for 3 with a run and RBI for Miami. Rene Recio went 2 for 5 at the plate with two RBIs for Oral Roberts. Recio also started on the mound for the Golden Eagles and and pitched five innings, gave up three runs, four hits, walked four and struck out five.

UM starter Brandon Camardese tied a career high with eight strikeouts in six innings and gave up one run on three hits with three walks in a no-decision.

Neither team crossed the plate until the fourth inning. Paco Figueroa hit a leadoff single to start the Hurricane fourth and stole second. Recio’s attempted pickoff throw to second base sailed into centerfield past Tim Torres. Figueroa scored on the two-error play for Miami’s first run of the game. UM freshman Alex Garabedian drove in Jon Jay with a double off the wall in right-center for a 2-0 lead.

Jay padded the Miami lead in the fifth with a double to left field that scored Danny Robitaille from second base. Recio helped his own cause in the sixth with a two-out single to score Brian Hanson and bring ORU within 3-1.

The Golden Eagles tied the game in eighth inning on a wild pitch by UM reliever Andrew Lane and an infield single by Recio that scored Torres.
