From The Sugarcanes to the whole team: Great job in Omaha this year! Being there with you was great. You guys stayed strong until the end, and never gave up. And you may not have the rings, but you made us proud to say were from Miami! Be proud, and keep your heads up…. We always have your backs!!! Good luck in summer ball and see ya in the Spring!
2004 Sugarcanes 🙂
From Ingo Fockler to Coach Morris and the team: Congratulations on a great year. You made us Canes fans really proud this year. Good Luck in the off season recruiting and next season.
Go Canes!
From John Adamson to the coaches, players and other Miami fans: It was an exciting season with most expectations fulfilled. Thanks for the wins and great effort in each contest. Boys, you went far and are to be congratulated. Most teams don’t make it to the Regionals, much less to the CWS. This is an accomplishment that will last a lifetime. Just like getting to the Superbowl or BCS Bowls. Many are called, but few are chosen. Hang tough, be proud, you are Miami!!!!
Best regards,
John Adamson
From Dave Gray to the whole team: Thank you for a great season, it is awesome to be a Hurricane fan. I live in South Carolina around all these Gamecock fans, but we proudly support our Canes. I took my boys to see you guys beat Georgia Tech, we had great day seeing you all in person. Now my kids watch Cane games saying “Go Jim Burt.” We are looking forward to seeing you play in person next year in ACC country. Thank you again for a great season, lets win that 5th championship next year. Go Canes.
From Mike Grant to Joey Hooft: Congratulations to you and your team on another year in the College World Series,I know you will have a better year next year to. Hope your having fun study hard, and please get a hold of me and the boys when you get home. We`ll all go do some hitting at the field. See ya.
Mike, Mikey, and Rudy
From Neil Keehn to Brain Barton: As a fellow engineer, I think that it’s an outrage that you were not drafted. Please let me know how you come out of this mess. I’m considering contacting the Commissioner’s Office as well as the AIAA to see what can be done. The annoucers on ESPN seemed to believe that you were not drafted because of the false perception that you wanted to be an engineer right away. Again, how outragous! You could make more money in a year in baseball than in a lifetime as an engineer.
The best to you.
Neil F. Keehn
From Emily to the whole team: I wish I could have been in Omaha to cheer you guys on, but I was there in spirit. I loved the all access special: al and the perfect hair, brian and the dancing, the singing, way too many laughs. I also heard that you made all the freshman sing to girls in the airport… Awesome job!!! Even though you had to come home early, I am still sooooo proud of you guys. You started as no.1 and you ended as no.1 so in my mind that is where you are, no.1! I wish I could be there to welcome you back home. Have an awesome time in the summer leagues and in the minors, I hope to hear good things from ya’ll. See ya’ll in the fall! Good Luck!!!!!
-Emily”A.B.F.C. for life”- Lane
From Dave Bradley to Coach Morris and the whole team: Great season guys! Wish you could have won it all. I especially want to thank the players for all the effort they put in to make this a successfull season. I can’t wait till next February when Mark Light will light up again.
Thanks for the memories Seniors!!!We will not forget you!!!
From Shannon to Chiqui Chirino: I saw you on TV, and I just wanted to say sorry that you lost. I thought you did a great job coming in to pitch. I was really excited to see that you were #19, and a pitcher, because I am too. So I was just kinda fascinated. Congratulations on making the World Series, though. That is a great goal to acomplish, and I hope that our team can make it there. Anyhow, I hope you continue to do well, and like I said I am sorry that you lost. I love Miami, and I hope that you have a great career.
From John Barney to Coach Morris: I am a UM alum (’91) living in Nashville, TN, and went to my first CWS this year. I made last minute plans when you guys beat Florida, and even though I went by myself I had the time of my life. I even lengthened my trip by an additional day so I could see the So. Carolina game. While I’m sorry for you guys that we lost (although you never laid down at the end and made it interesting), I want you to know how proud I am of the team and its annual success. I will continue to cheer for you and plan on seeing UM play in many more CWS’.
From Victor Nespeca Jr to the whole team: Boys keep your heads up! What a great season…Just remember you guys are and will be still consider one of our elite baseball programs in the country..NO questions asked. God bless each and everyone of you guys. Good luck to all! Cant want until next season.GO CANES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From Ryan Laboy to Jon Jay: Jon, I’m not sure if you remember me, but I was at the christmas camp and then you talked to me at the Georgia Tech series. I have been following you very close this year, because you really inspire me to want to play at UM. I hope I can play alongisde you someitme soon. But I just wanted to congratulate you on such a great freshman season! I’ve been wanting to talk with you for the longest time now. I hope you have a great summer and I hope we can talk through email or something. This summer I am playing at the baseball academy @ IMG Academies. Its been really fun. I hope to hear back from you and again a huge congratulations on the year.
Ryan Laboy
From John Mark Hopman to Coach Morris: We are still very proud to have seen your team in Omaha again this year. You and the team are to be congratulated and should hold your heads high. For such an overall young team and in view of what you went through this season, what a great year! It looks as if a 22nd appearance at the CWS is only 12 months away. Thank you for all of your efforts and leadership this year. Please tell the team to be proud of chalking up a terrific season. Our small group of alums living in Omaha are sure proud of them!
From John D. Polemis to the whole team: You almost won with a brilliant game. You should be proud of yourselves for making it to the College World Series! You will all be back next year! GO CANES!
Regards,
John D. Polemis
From Phil Kane to the whole team: Congratulations on a great season. Don’t allow your disappointment over the last two games to overshadow all that you accomplished this year and in your careers at UM.
Best of luck to those of you going into professional ball now, your fans will continue to follow your careers, and for those of you returning in the fall — Let’s get’em next year.
Phil
From Dana to the whole team: When you compete against the best-of-the-best, you have to be at your best. Unfortunately, you weren’t. That’s just the way things worked out. Today is a rough day. But stand tall. You had a fine season. You had high goals and you did what you had to do to reach them. You made me proud to be a fan of Miami Baseball.
From Larry Pius to Coach Morris and the team: Ouch! That hurt, but we still love you tons!! Thanks for the great season and all of the tremendous effort that everybody put out to make it so. To all of our draftees, best of luck in the pro’s. We’ll be keeping an eye on you so keep up the good work.
See the rest of you at the banquet in January.
Much Love,Larry Pius andNatine Plotnick
Go Canes!
From Ivan Villalba to the whole team: Be proud, and always take with you the feeling, and pass on when you are in a leadership position when all seems losts. Keep this experience for life.
The Hurricane Nation is proud of you.

From Dave Huber to Roger Tomas: Roger, Congrat’s on a terrific year and all of your accomplishments. We look forward to following your career with the Canes.
Heard on TV about you having Crohn’s. My nine year old son, Christopher, was diagnosed a year ago. Life was very difficult for him but things are now under control. We pray every day for Chris and the doctors that treat him and that a cure can someday soon be found. Chris loves baseball and like you, plays 2B for his team, the Vikings. There is no stopping Chris and he was very interested to hear about your success and how you deal with the disease.
We would love to hear back from you; perhaps you can send an autographed photo. Best of luck!
Regards,Dave Huber
From Robert Wolverton to Brian Barton & Ryan Braun: Ryan / Brian –
Please accept my congratulations for a job well done. While I realize that you did not reach your goal of winning the National Championship, your performance in the CWS and your comeback against South Carolina are achievements that you should all be proud of (I thought you had them for a minute there!).
As president of the Greater Los Angeles Alumni Club, I would like to invite you to the summer student send-off to be held in the Beverly Hills home of Joann & Eddie Dauer on Saturday, July 31st, 2004. We generally get about 20-30 students and at least as many alumni, so it should be a good time.
Please let me know if you think you (and your parents) will be able to make it, as I would like to honor both you and the team for a great season, and I will send along directions and other relevant information.
Thanks,Robert WolvertonBBA ’90, MBA ’91Former Track & Cross Country UM Athleterwolverton@hotmail.com
From Ricardo to the whole team: I would just like to wish you guys the best of luck tonight against South Carolina. I know you guys can do it. Go out there and fight like never before. Just remember West Palm Beach Canes are behind you all the way. Matter of fact the whole South FLA. Let’s bring this championship back home.
From Sharon HUmmerhielm to the whole team: I remember being in Omaha in 1985. Miami had one loss from the first game. We had come up through the loser’s bracket. Now it was time to do the impossible – beat Texas 2 times to win the National Championship (there were no separate divisions then). First day – rain out. Second day – raining worse. Ron Fraser told the team “Just have fun!!!!” I knew we were going to win when we looked at the respective dugouts – Texas was all but sleeping, heads perched on hands on top of bats. Our guys had the CD player going and they were dancing in the dugout. The music was so loud all the fans could hear it. The results speak for themselves – our 2nd National Championship!
Don’t dwell on the negative – Go out there just have fun. You are a great team and I personally have had oodles of fun watching you all season long.
GO CANES!!!!!!!!!!Sharon Hummerhielm
From Ivan Villalba to the whole team: The difference between UM and other programs is the level of humanity and development for your future. Winning is great and apreciated, however someday you will be in Omaha 20 years from now with your son or daughter talking about today’s game, with a smile, and a joy of the Hurricane tradition. Keep in mind, UM has plenty of championships in the Hall of Fame. The UM athletic experience will last a life time, and you will share the tough learned lessons with your subordinates in your careers after college or pro baseball when they are down and the goal seem difficult. When on the field, look up to the sky and thank God, and see yourself in the stands 20 years from today, happy you enjoyed the CWS and played with the best program. In 20 years, you will have some aches and pains…. enjoy your youth, your enthusiasm, your talent, athletic prowess….. winning with the best of dispositions is academic. it is in you, let it flow like water through your hands.

From John Mark Hopmann to Coach Morris: As a Miami alum and resident of Omaha, I wish you and the team the best as well as congratulations for another appearance here at the CWS! We know it must be hard on you all to have suffered a loss after your long winning streak. But take heart, it’s not over. You could still win the championship! Your team has overcome many challenges to make it this far and are already champions in our book. You have earned our respect and that of millions of fans nationwide. We know baseball is baseball and anything can happen, but you guys have what it takes.
On a personal note, thank you for all of your efforts and for making the very small number of Miami alums who actually live in Omaha extremely happy and proud to be Miami alums in the middle of Nebraska Husker territory!
From Mike to Roger Tomas: Congratulations on making it to the CWS! You have done well at shortstop. Keep up the good work and good luck in the games ahead! I’m praying for you and the team. Never give up! Never surrender!
From Amy Hansford to the whole team: We made the drive from Chicago to see the Canes beat LSU. Great game by all. We saw the game against Cal on ESPN, and we’re not disappointed at all because nothing good ever happens easy. Stay tough and beat Carolina and everything else will take care of itself.
From Dan Huguet to George Huguet: Though we’re Alabama and LSU fans, living in ‘Bama but from Louisiana originally, we have to cheer our (my grandfather’s) namesake. Hope you do well in Omaha and we see you in the ML.

From Lisa Reed to Richard Giannotti: Good luck this weekend against the Gators! We hope you win so we can see you (& the team) play at the CWS. I am an STA (’88) and UM (’92) alum and live in Kansas City and will be attending the CWS again this year. GO CANES!!!
From Jarrod Oliver to the whole team: Just wanted to say good luck in the super regionals and the world series. Thanks for another great season and as always GO CANES!!!!!!!!!!!!
From Freddy to Jon Jay: Yo whats up man? How does it feel playing baseball in college, and possibly winning another ring? Good Luck bro.
From John Adamson to the whole team: Great regional and a fine year! Please finish through every throw, hit and run. Hustle makes the opponent think too much.
You boys are top ranked and you are Miami!
I am a very proud fan of each and every one of you players.
God bless and always keep your eyes on the ball and the “zone” is yours.
Go ‘Canes!
From Patty Leblanc to the whole team and coaches: Congratulations to all of you on winning the regional! It was really exciting to see such good hitting and pitching. Congratulations to the players drafted into pro baseball. Best of luck and good weather during the super-regionals. See you in Omaha!
From Hillary to Gaby Sanchez: Well your doing great this year and since the day you joined the hurricanes I knew you would be a wonderful player for this team . I go and watch you play all the time. I also play 3rd base for a softball team and you are my idol ! Good Luck and do your best that you can do…
From Lonnie Scigliano to Ryan Braun: Chomp on those Gators this weekend! Go Canes!
From Erin to Gaby Sanchez: First of all I would like to congratulate you on a successful weekend. You were awesome! And I just want to wish you continued success. Remember to be persistent. Be determined. Be tenacious. Be completely determined to reach your goal, which is ulitmately to beat Florida in the Super Regional and then go on to win the College World Series. I know you and the rest of the team will be successful. No matter what happens I will always be proud of you and the team for what you have accomplished this season. Enclosing I would like to leave you with this neat poem; you are truly a great competitor and of course my favorite athlete:)
The Great Competitor:
Beyond the winning and the goal, beyond the glory and the flame
He feels the flame within his soul, born of the spirit of the game.
And where the barriers may wait, built up by the opposing Gods,
He finds a thrill in bucking fate and riding down the endless odds.
Where others wither in the fire or fall below some raw mishap,
Where others lag behind or tire and break beneath the handicap,
He finds a new and deeper thrill to take him on the uphill spin,
Because the test is greater still, and something he can revel in.
-Grantland Rice
Go get em’ Gaby!
From Kyle Weyer to J.D. Artaega: J.D. I’m not sure if you remember but a few years ago you and Rudy Gomez came over to the west coast to play golf and take to time to come hit balls with my Dad, little brother, and I. I still treasure that day. At that time you guys were larger than life for us. That day you and Rudy picked up some life long fans. We have been to many games this year and every year for that matter. I ment to say hello after some of the games, but I wasnt sure youd remember us. Either way I just wanted to say that you have done a great job with the pithers these last few years. All of us Hurricane fans thank you from the bottom of our hearts. I wont be able to come to the super regionals this weekend as I will be in Tennesee, but I’m sure the family will be there. Again thank you for all you’ve done for the U and thanks for taking the time to come hang out with some kids you didn’t really know. I will never forget that day and you will always remain my favorite Hurricane baseball player of all time. Again thanks and hope this finds you and your wife in good health and times. Good luck this weekend and GO CANES!!!
From Slade Miller to The whole team: Good luck guys! Bring home another national title to add to the trophy case down in Coral Gables!
