Burt Named CoSIDA Academic All-District III for Third Time

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami senior first baseman Jim Burt was named to CoSIDA’s First-Team Academic All-District III team Thursday afternoon.
It was Burt’s third such honor and only the second time a Hurricanes’ baseball players has been named to the Academic All-district team three times. Jeff Morrison a pitcher for the Hurricanes was a three-time selection from 1979-81. Alex Santos was a two-time honoree in 1998 and 1999.
Burt, an Allendale, N.J., native, is now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, which he captured last season as a member of the second team.
Burt received his undergraduate degree in business from the University of Miami in May of 2003. He finished with a 3.82 grade-point average and is now carrying a 4.0 GPA in the sports administration masters program.
Along with is work in the classroom, Burt has been a force on the field for Miami this season with a .370 batting average. He leads the Hurricanes with 10 home runs, 55 RBI, 18 doubles, 64 hits, a .682 slugging percentage and a .471 on-base percentage.
Burt has helped the Hurricanes to a No. 2 national ranking and a 36-9 record. Miami opens a three-game series with 16th-ranked North Carolina on Friday, May 14, at 8 p.m. at Mark Light Field. The game will be broadcast nationally on College Sports Television (CSTV), which can be found on Direct TV programming.
