Hurricanes Welcome ACC Foe North Carolina to `The Light'

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The second-ranked Miami Hurricanes continue their 22-game home stand with 16th-ranked North Carolina in a three-game series at Mark Light Field beginning Friday, May 14, at a special 8 p.m. start time.

The series continues at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 15 and noon on Sunday, May 16.

Friday’s contest will be broadcast nationally on College Sports Television with Mike Crispino doing play-by-play and Kevin Stocker on color analysis.

All three games can be heard on the student voice of the Hurricanes, WVUM 90.5 FM. Miami’s flagship station, WQAM 560 AM, will carry Saturday’s contest along with UM’s Spanish partner, WNMA 1210 AM.

The Hurricanes enter the series with a 36-9 record and a six-game winning streak. UM is 12 games into its season-ending 22-game home stand with a 10-2 record.

UNC is 34-13 with mid-week a game against Virginia Commonwealth Wednesday. UNC lost 9-4 to South Carolina Tuesday.

Miami will send left-hander J.D. Cockroft to the mound Friday night. Cockroft has won four straight starts and is 6-3 on the season with a 2.79 ERA. RHP Cesar Carrillo (8-0, 2.67 ERA) will go to the hill on Saturday. UM is 13-0 when Carrillo pitches. Left-hander Brandon Camardese (5-1, 4.03 ERA) will pitch the series finale on Sunday.

North Carolina is expected to start right-hander Daniel Bard (7-2, 3.19 ERA) on Friday night and follow with RHP Garry Bakker (4-4, 3.76 ERA) on Saturday night. Left-hander Andrew Miller will counter Camardese on Sunday. Miller is 4-2 on the year with a team-low 2.77 ERA.

Chris Iannetta leads UNC at the plate with a .370 average and 10 home runs. Marshall Hubbard also provides the power with a team-high 14 home runs and 63 RBI. The Tar Heels hit .304 as a team with a .381 on-base percentage.

Miami scores 9.0 runs a game which ranks seventh nationally and tops among top 25 competition. The Hurricanes lead the all-time series with the Tar Heels 14-8 and have 10-3 edge at Mark Light Field.
