Hurricanes Host Coastal Carolina in Weekend Series

The fourth-ranked Miami Hurricanes (30-9) host Coastal Carolina for a three-game series at Mark Light Field beginning Friday, April 30, at 7 p.m.
The series continues Saturday, May 1, at 7 p.m. with the series finale slated for 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 2.
Miami’s student voice of the Hurricanes, WVUM 90.5 FM, will carry all three games of the series. UM’s flagship station, WQAM 560 AM, will broadcast Friday night’s game, while WNMA 1210 AM will carry the Saturday night contest in Spanish.
The Hurricanes bring the nation’s 13th-best team batting average (.328) into the series and have lowered their team-ERA to 3.70.
Fifth-year senior Jim Burt leads the Hurricanes with a .384 average, nine home runs and a career-best 52 RBI.
Coastal Carolina is hitting .291 as a team with Mike Costanzo leading the way with a .361 average and 14 home runs.
J.D. Cockroft will make his third straight Friday night start against the Chanticleers. Cockroft is 4-3 on the season with a 3.02 ERA and has not allowed a run over the past 14.2 innings. Coastal Carolina will counter with the left-handed Jake Hurry (5-1, 3.14 ERA).
Saturday night will see two right-handers do battle as Miami’s Cesar Carrillo squares off with Coastal Carolina’s Steven Carter (7-1, 3.44 ERA). Carrillo leads the Hurricanes with seven wins and a 2.98 ERA.
Left-hander Brandon Camardese takes his 4-1 record and 3.60 ERA to the hill Sunday afternoon against Coastal Carolina’s right-handed Mike Costanzo (5-3, 6.26 ERA). Camardese threw 6.1 impressive innings last weekend before earning the no decision against 15th-ranked Virginia.
Miami owns an 8-0 lead in the all-time series that dates back to their first meeting on May 20, 1994, a 4-1 Hurricanes’ win. The two teams last met for a three-game series in 1997.
Coastal Carolina is located in Conway, S.C., and is coming off of a NCAA Regional appearance last season in Lincoln, Neb. The Chanticleers are coached by Gary Gilmore, who is in his ninth year at Coastal Carolina with a 312-200 record with the school.
