Miami Posts Program's 2,000th Win with 13-1 Route of Illinois-Chicago

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The sixth-ranked Miami Hurricanes completed a sweep of Illinois-Chicago on Sunday evening, 13-1, in front of 1,528 fans at Mark Light Field for the 2,000th win in the storied program’s history.
The Hurricanes improve to 19-4 and have won four straight games heading into Wednesday’s 7 p.m. game with FIU at Mark Light Field. Illinois-Chicago falls to 7-7 on the season.
Miami, in just 59 seasons and 2,796 games, becomes only the 28th program in the history of college baseball to win 2,000 games. Miami now has an all-time record of 2,000-779-17 (.718).
Cesar Carrillo improved to 3-0 on the season with six innings of work, allowing one run on three hits and five strikeouts.
Jon Jay made it 5-1 in the fifth inning with his first home run in a Hurricane uniform, launching 1-0 pitch from UIC’s Ryan Gehring over the center-field fence.
Adam Ricks chased Gehring from the game three batters later with his fifth home run of the season, a three-run shot to left-center field. The home run pushed the Hurricanes’ lead to 8-1 and closed the book on Gehring (2-2), after allowing eight runs (eight earned) on seven hits.
UM would tack on two more runs in the fifth inning with a RBI triple from Erick San Pedro and a RBI double off the bat of Gaby Sanchez.
Sanchez staked the Hurricanes to a 3-0 lead in the first inning with a two-run home run to left-center field. It was the first home run of the season for Sanchez. Miami scored its first run of the inning on a RBI ground out by San Pedro.
Bryan Russo put the Flames on the scoreboard with a RBI single with two outs in the third inning.
Miami added its fourth run of the game on a Ryan Braun RBI triple down the left-field line, scoring Barton who had walked to lead off the inning.
The Hurricanes continued to pour it on in the sixth inning with three runs on three hits.
