Camardese Pitches Hurricanes past No. 4 Long Beach State, 3-2

LONG BEACH STATE, Calif. – (hurricanesports.com) – Miami left-hander Brandon Camardese turned in the best performance of his career on the mound and Jim Burt and Joey Hooft produced RBI singles, as the 17th-ranked Hurricanes won their second straight game over fourth-ranked Long Beach State, 3-2.
Camardese pitched a career-high eight innings, walking only one and striking out six Long Beach State hitters. He allowed only one earned run on nine Dirtbag hits to improve to 9-0 on the season.
Long Beach State preseason All-American left-hander Abe Alvarez went seven innings, allowing seven hits and three runs (two earned) with two walks and five strikeouts. The loss was Alvarez’s first of the season, dropping to 10-1 on the season.
Miami improves to 39-13-1 on the season, while Long Beach State falls to 37-18.
Burt crushed a 1-2 pitch deep to left-center field for a triple with one out in the sixth inning. LBSU’s center fielder Josh Buhagiar ran the ball down but slammed into the wall trying to make the catch. Brian Barton followed with an RBI single to right field to help the Hurricanes retake the lead.
Barton followed with his 14th stolen base of the season to move into scoring position. With two outs, Joey Hooft singled in Barton to give the Hurricanes a 3-1 lead.
Danny Figueroa ripped a double into the right-center field gap to open the game off Alvarez. Adam Ricks laid down a perfect sacrificed bunt to move Figueroa to third base and Ryan Braun drove in his 66th RBI of the season with a sacrifice fly deep down the left field line in foul ground.
Long Beach State tied it up at 1-1 in the third inning with three hits, highlighted by a RBI single off the bat of Tim Hutting.
UM Head Coach Jim Morris was ejected from the game in the fourth inning contesting a stolen base by the Dirtbags’ Adam Hofius.
The Hurricanes and Dirtbags will conclude the series Saturday at 4 p.m. (EST) at Blair Field.
