Sanchez and San Pedro Named Top Prospects

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – Miami third baseman Gaby Sanchez and catcher Erick San Pedro were both named to one of the top 10 pro prospects coming out of the Valley League this summer by Baseball America.
The list of top 10 Valley League prospects was compiled by Baseball America editor Allan Simpson and national writer John Manuel through consultation with league managers and area scouts.
San Pedro, a native of Hialeah, was ranked as the No. 3 prospect in the Valley League after hitting .300 with four home runs and 16 RBIs using a wood bat for the Staunton Braves. He also stole seven bases in 10 attempts. San Pedro paced the Braves to the South Division title and was named the all-Valley League team and was the league’s co-player of the week for July 14-20.
San Pedro is entering his junior season with the Hurricanes after hitting .317 last season with four home runs and 43 RBIs.
Sanchez, a Miami native out of Brito Private, was named the No. 7 prospect in the league after hitting .286 in 119 at bats with two home runs and 18 RBIs. He split time between shortstop and third base for the Staunton Braves.
Sanchez, who begins his sophomore season for the Hurricanes, was second on the UM squad in 2003 with a .328 batting average. He hit seven home runs for Miami in his freshman campaign and drove in 56 runs.
