Coral Gables, FL (hurricanesports.com) – The eighth-seeded University of Miami baseball team (42-15-1) will host North Carolina State (45-16) in the NCAA Coral Gables Super Regional, June 7-9, at Mark Light Field.
“North Carolina State is an outstanding club that had a great year,” said head coach Jim Morris. “We are very excited about hosting a Super Regional.”
Saturday’s opening game is set for 12:05 p.m. with Sunday’s game slated to start at 2:35 p.m. If necessary, Monday’s game will start at 1:05 p.m.
Miami is one of only three schools, joining LSU and Stanford, to advance to a Super Regional all five seasons since the format was established in 1999.
This marks the third time the Hurricanes have hosted a Super Regional. The Hurricanes hosted a Super Regional in 1999 and 2001. Both times the Hurricanes went on to win the National Championship.
The Hurricanes will be hosting an ACC opponent for the third time in Super Regional competition. Miami swept both Wake Forest (1999) and Clemson (2001) in the two previous Super Regionals at Mark Light Field.
Overall, Miami is 6-4 all-time in Super Regional competition including a 4-0 mark at home.
UM is 8-4 all-time again North Carolina State including a 2-0 record in post-season play. Miami and North Carolina State last met during the 2000 season with the Hurricanes taking two games of the three-game set.
