Fall Baseball Practice Begins

Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The 2003 Miami Hurricanes open fall practice on Thursday, November 7th at 4 p.m. at Mark Light Field on the UM campus. Practice, which will consist of 12 daily sessions, will run through Thursday, November 23rd. These sessions are open to the public.
Within the 12 fall sessions will be a exhibition against the Japanese Kinetsu Buffaloes at Dodgertown – Holman Stadium in Vero Beach on Sunday, November 17th.
The Hurricanes return several members from last season, including first baseman Jim Burt, outfielders Danny Figueroa and Kevin Mannix and shortstop Paco Figueroa. Among the pitchers returning are Dan Touchet, J.D. Cockroft, Ryan Dixon, George Huguet and Vince Bongiovanni.
Miami returns 20 players from the 2002 squad that won the NCAA Gainesville Regional and advanced to within one game of reaching the College World Series at the NCAA Columbia (SC) Super Regional. Among the 20 players returning are four position starters and nine pitchers. The squad will welcome at least 13 newcomers once the spring practice commences.
The 2003 season features home series against Florida State, Georgia Tech, San Diego State, South Florida, Rutgers and Boston College, while going on the road for series against Florida, Tennessee, Virginia, Jacksonville and Long Beach State.
