Scenes From Columbia, SC: The Diary Of Paco Figueroa
June 9, 2002
Unfortunately, due to the early game time, I’m writing this journal on the way home. By now, I’m sure you are aware of the result of the game.
The morning started simply enough. We got up a little earlier and had breakfast. From there, we went straight to the ballpark. What a feeling, warming up on the field knowing that today was the deciding day.
Our best just wasn’t good enough. We were close to victory, but let the game slip from our hands. I’ve had a taste at winning, and now I’ve got a thirst for it. I learned quite a bit from our juniors and seniors this past couple of weekends. I saw University of Miami baseball rise to the challenge. I saw the meaning of a new season. I saw dedication and hard work pay off. This off season, I plan to work harder than I’ve ever, and maybe, just maybe, I’ll see for myself what Omaha is like.
I’d like to thank you for taking the time to follow me in Columbia, South Carolina. It’s been fun, sharing with you my daily activities. Hopefully, I’ll get to do this again real soon.
Thanks for supporting us this season. It meant a lot to us to have you in our corner. Go Canes!
