Baseball Hosts FIU And Bethune-Cookman

Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) — – The University of Miami baseball team (22-21) begins a four-game home stand this Thursday with Florida International at 7 p.m. at Mark Light Stadium. Miami will then host Bethune-Cookman College for a three-game series beginning Friday at Mark Light. Scheduled times for the Bethune-Cookman series are 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
All four games can be heard over the Internet at www.hurricanesports.com or on the student voice of the Hurricanes, WVUM 90.5 FM. Thursday evening’s game with FIU will also be broadcasted on the flagship stations of the Miami Hurricanes, Sports Radio 560 WQAM and WACC 830 AM Radio Paz (Spanish).
The Saturday game with Bethune-Cookman can also be heard on WQAM and WACC, while Sunday afternoon’s game will be televised by Fox Sports Net Florida.
On the mound for the Hurricanes Thursday night vs. FIU will sophomore RHP T.J. Prunty (5-3, 5.79 ERA). Prunty last earned a victory against No. 17 FAU at Mark Light Stadium on April 24.
For the weekend, the first two spots in the rotation have been filled by sophomore RHP Dan Touchet (3-2, 4.99 ERA) on Friday and junior RHP Kiki Bengochea (3-5, 6.71 ERA) on Saturday. Sunday’s starting pitcher has yet to be announced. Both Touchet and Bengochea earned no-decisions in their starts at No. 9 North Carolina last weekend.
Miami leads the all-time series with FIU 82-19, dating back to the 1973 season. Teh series is the third-longest on-going rivalry on the UM baseball schedule behind Florida (1940) and Florida State (1951).
Miami has won 13 of the past 18 meetings with FIU, including six of the past eight. This season, Miami avenged a 7-1 loss at FIU on Feb. 6, with a 6-2 win over the Golden Panthers at the Homestead Challenge on Feb. 22. Miami, under Jim Morris, is 21-9 vs. FIU since 1994.
Miami leads the all-time series with Bethune-Cookman College, 9-0, dating back to the 1983 season. All nine contests have taken place at Mark Light Stadium. The last meeting between the two schools occurred in the 1999 NCAA Coral Gables Regional opener, the lone postseason meeting between the pair.
