April 23, 2002

Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) — – Fresh off a series victory over No. 13 Long Beach State, the University of Miami baseball team (20-19) looks to continue the run with No. 17 Florida Atlantic (34-7) visiting Mark Light Stadium this Wednesday at 7 p.m.

This past weekend at Mark Light Stadium, the Hurricanes took two of three games with then-No. 13 Long Beach State. UM won the first two games, 9-6 and 10-6, on Friday and Saturday, respectively. The 49ers avoided the sweep by winning Sunday afternoon’s contest 10-1.

Florida Atlantic enters Wednesday night’s game against Miami looking to rebound from its first loss, a 10-6 defeat at Stetson, after compiling a 27-game win streak that dated back to March 5. During the win streak, the Owls put together a 17-1 Atlantic Sun Conference record to solidify their hold on first-place.

Wednesday night’s game can be heard over the Internet at www.hurricanesports.com or on the student voice of the Hurricanes, WVUM 90.5 FM.

On the mound for the Hurricanes will be Sophomore RHP T.J. Prunty (4-3, 5.87 ERA). Most recently, Prunty pitched 3.1 innings of long relief in a game No. 2 win vs. Long Beach State allowing three hits, two earned runs, two walks with one strikeout.

FAU will counter with sophomore ace RHP Chris Pillsbury (8-0, 3.45 ERA), who will be making his first mid-week appearance after serving as the Friday night starter for his previous eight starts. Pillsbury last picked up a victory in a 6.0 inning outing at Stetson last Friday night, allowing six hits, four earned runs, one walk and five strikeouts.

Miami and Florida Atlantic have had 41 all-time meetings since the 1982 season, with the Hurricanes leading 35-6. Additionally, Miami has won 17 of the past 19 meetings with the Owls. UM Head Coach Jim Morris is 17-2 against FAU since coming to Miami in 1994.

Following FAU game, Miami travels to No. 9 North Carolina for a three-game series with the Tar Heels at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill. Game times are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday night. The Sunday game time has been changed to 1 p.m. from an original 2 p.m. start.
