MIAMI/LONG BEACH STATE SERIES — Miami leads the all-time series with Long Beach State, 9-6, dating back to the 1993 season. Under Jim Morris, the Hurricanes are 8-4 against the 49ers.

Most recently, Miami picked up consecutive three-game series victories over the 49ers in Long Beach in 1999 and Coral Gables in 2000. In each series, Miami won two of three games. After falling to the 49ers 12-0 in game one of 1999, UM bounced back to win the next two, 9-7 and 8-6. In 2000, Miami won the first two at Mark Light Stadium with scores of 6-3 and 12-2, but the 49ers avoided the sweep by winning game three 6-4.

In the six all-time games between the two schools played at Mark Light Stadium, the sereis tied at 3-3. In the six games played at Blair Field, Miami owns a 4-2 advantage. Miami leads the series, 2-1, in neutral-site games, including 1-1 at the College World Series.

MIAMI VS. THE BIG WEST — Of the nine baseball-playing schools in the Big West Conference, Miami has faced three of them forging a 16-16 (.500) record. The Hurricanes have faced Cal State Fullerton (6-10), Long Beach State (9-6) and Cal State Northridge (1-0). Miami has never played Sacramento State, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, Cal Poly or Pacific. Miami enters the Kia Bash having lost four straight to the Big West Conference since the 2000 season.

MIAMI FAIRS WELL AGAINST CALIFORNIA SCHOOLS AT MARK LIGHT STADIUM — Since 1981, six California schools have played 29 games against the Hurricanes at Mark Light Stadium. In those 29 games, UM has forged a 23-6 record. Most recently, UM swept UCLA in a three-game series March 23-25. Additionally, UM holds a current win streak of four games against California schools.

JAVY RODRIGUEZ LISTED THROUGHOUT MIAMI CAREER RECORDS — Senior All-American Javy Rodriguez has etched his name on numerous Miami career record lists, including at bats, runs scored, hits, total bases, total sacrifices and stolen bases.

KEVIN HOWARD’S DOUBLE AT FSU LIFTS HIM TO THIRD PLACE — Kevin Howard’s one double during the FSU series in Tallahassee allowed him to move into a third-place tie with 55 career doubles. He is now tied with Don Rowland (82-85). Jose Trujillo (1986-89) holds the school-record with 65 doubles. Howard has 13 doubles in 2002, 20 in 2001 and 22 in 2000. Howard also has 220 career hits – four away from tying Calvin James (81-85) for 10th place.

GEORGE HUGUET IN A FIFTH-PLACE TIE FOR CAREER SAVES — Sophomore George Huguet earned one save at Florida State to give him 20 for his career. The 20 career saves tie for fifth-place all-time at Miami with 1982 College World Series MVP Danny Smith (80-83). Rick Raether (84-86) holds the school-record with 37 career saves. Jay Tessmer (94-95) is in fourth-place with 23 saves.
