Baseball Hosts Rutgers This Weekend

Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) — – The University of Miami baseball team (10-9) hosts Rutgers University (6-3) for a three-game series this weekend at Mark Light Stadium, beginning Friday at 7 p.m. The Saturday game will also start at 7 p.m., while Sunday is at 1 p.m.
All three games can be heard over the Internet at www.hurricanesports.com or on the student voice of the Hurricanes, WVUM 90.5 FM. Fox Sports Net Florida will televise the Saturday night game.
Former Hurricane All-American Stan Jakubowski (1973-76) will return to the park on Friday to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Jakubowski is a member of the UM Sports Hall of Fame. Among his accolades was a spot on the 1974 College World Series All-Tournament team after Miami qualified for the championship game against Southern California in its first-ever trip to Omaha. His 1.81 career ERA still stands as the lowest all-time at UM.
Saturday night will also be Trading Card Strip #1 night for the first 500 fans. The four-card strip features 2001 National Coach of the Year Jim Morris, the assistant coaches, a commemorative 2001 National Championship card and senior All-American shortstop Javy Rodriguez.
On the mound for the Hurricanes Friday night will be junior RHP Troy Roberson (1-0, 3.97 ERA). Sophomore RHP T.J. Prunty (2-0, 4.15 ERA) will pitch Saturday night, while sophomore RHP Dan Touchet (1-0, 4.76 ERA) goes on Sunday.
Rutgers will counter with junior All-American RHP Bobby Brownlie (2-1, 2.25 ERA) on Friday, senior LHP Tom Crohan (1-1, 5.74 ERA) on Saturday and senior RHP Tom Wheeler (2-0, 3.68 ERA) on Sunday.
Miami is entering the series coming off a 12-4 loss to Ball State on Wednesday. Ball State starter Bryan Bullington, a Team USA member and potential first round draft pick, pitched 8.0 innings in the game and had a career-high 13 strikeouts. Rutgers enters the weekend having dropped two of three games at Tulane last weekend.
Miami leads the all-time series with Rutgers 31-7, with all games played in Coral Gables. Last season, Rutgers took two of three games from Miami for its first series win over the Hurricanes all-time.
