Baseball Upends Alumni 20-3

Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The 2002 Miami Hurricanes had an impressive outing against the Hurricanes of old as the 2002 group defeated the Alumni 20-3 Saturday night at Mark Light Stadium.
The 2002 team started off quick scoring in each of the first five innings. The current squad jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first, followed by one run in the second. Then they came on strong in the third with a game-high six runs, followed by one more run in the fourth. In the fifth, the 2002 Hurricanes added five more runs for a 16-0 lead entering the sixth.
The 2002 squad looked strong over the first five innings, out-hitting the alumni 18-1. The alumni added five errors over the first five innings as well.
The Alumni got on the scoreboard in the seventh with one run. Then they added two more in the eighth.
A total of 13 2002 batters recorded hits, led by designated hitter Haas Pratt who went 5-of-6 with three runs scored and three RBI. Matt Dryer and Kevin Howard each had three hits. Dryer also added four RBI.
Overall, 2002 out-hit the alumni 24-6. The six alumni hits came from Danny Buxbaum, Charlton Jimerson, Mike Rodriguez, Orlando Palmeiro, Stanley Palm and Ross Jones. The three runs were scored by Rodriguez, Buxbaum and Palmeiro.
The defending National Champion Miami Hurricanes return to the diamond with their home-opening series against the Tennessee Volunteers, February 1-3, at Mark Light Stadium. Fox Sports Net Florida will televise the Friday and Saturday night games, while Sports Radio 560 WQAM will also air the first two games. The student voice of the Hurricanes WVUM 90.5 FM will air all three games as well as each game on the Hurricanes 2002 schedule.
