Baseball Opens 2002 Ranked No. 2

Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) — – The University of Miami will begin the 2002 season ranked No. 2 in the Baseball Weekly/ESPN Top 25 College Coaches Poll, as selected by 41 Division I head baseball coaches representing the American Baseball Coaches Association.
The defending National Champion Hurricanes are ranked second behind Stanford, who Miami defeated 12-1 in last season’s College World Series title game. The Cardinal received 1,011 poll points, including 33 first-place votes. Miami had 925 points and six first-place votes. Southern California, Florida State and Clemson round out the top five.
The Hurricanes begin the 2002 season with a three-game series against ’01 CWS opponent Tennessee the first weekend in February 1-3, at Mark Light Stadium.
