Kevni Mannix Leads South Past North In Valley All-Star Game

Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) — – The Hurricanes have another one of its players having a stellar season for their summer collegiate team. Junior-to-be Kevin Mannix (Syosset, NY), who starred for the Hurricanes in right field during the 2001 National Championship season, is currently playing for the Staunton Braves of the Virginia Valley League.

Mannix was recently named the Most Valuable Player of the South squad during South’s narrow 7-6 victory on July 21. As the starting third baseman, he led the club by going 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI. In the game, Mannix broke a 1-1 tie in the third with an RBI single that would give his team the lead for good. Later in the fifth, he hit a two-RBI double to give the South a 5-1 advantage.

The Braves did not make the playoffs, finishing two games behind Covington with a 21-19 record. With starts in all 23 games he played in, Mannix batted .287 with 13 runs scored, 25 hits, eight duobles, two home runs and 17 RBI. He has also walked 16 times, hit three times and struck out 18.
