Morris' Contract Renewed Following National Championship

CORAL GABLES, FL (www.hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami AthleticDirector Paul Dee announced today that Head Baseball Coach Jim Morris’contract with the Hurricanes has been renegotiated through the 2006 season.Terms of the renewal were not disclosed.
“The University of Miami is extremely pleased to make this announcement withrespect to Coach Morris’ contract,” said Dee. “Coach Morris has been highlysuccessful in all aspects of this program, including this year’s NationalChampionship.”
“I’m very excited about the new contract,” said Morris. “Miami is the placemost coaches dream of being and at this stage of my career, I can’t imaginebeing anywhere else.”
Morris has guided the Hurricanes to two National Championships in the lastthree seasons and seven trips to the College World Series in his eightseasons at Miami. Most recently, the 2001 squad swept through thepostseason and defeated Stanford, 12-1, for Morris’ second CWS title. His1999 club won the CWS crown with a 6-5 victory over Florida State.
Aside from winning two National Championships at Miami, Morris has beennamed National Coach of the Year four times since 1994. Following the 2001National Championship, Collegiate Baseball pegged him for its top-coachinghonor. In 1999 Collegiate Baseball and American Baseball Coaches’Association named Morris the National Coach of the Year. Baseball Americachose Morris as the National Coach of the Year following his first season atUM in 1994.
