Charlton Jimerson recorded his second lead-off home run of the College World Series. It marks the third lead-off home run of the season for Jimerson.
With his single in the second inning Kevin Mannix has reached base safely in his first seven plate appearances at the 2001 College World Series. Mannix was 3-3 with three walks in six plate appearances against Tennessee. Dating back the Super Regional against Clemson Mannix had reached base safely in 10 straight plate appearances. Mannix grounded to short in the fourth inning to end the streak.
Kevin Brown’s double in the fifth inning marked the 51st of his career tying him for fifth on UM’s all-time career list with Doug Shields (1981-84). Brown is two doubles shy of fourth-place (53 – F. Dominguez, 1985-88).
Miami scored first for the 40th time this season. Miami improves to 35-6 in games this season when it scores first.
Miami improves to 46-0 this season when leading after six innings and 49-0 when leading after eight innings.
Miami improves to 51-12 on the season matching the most wins for head coach JimMorris at Miami. The Hurricanes went 51-18 in 1997 and 51-12 in 1998.
Luke DeBold entered the game in relief in the seventh inning marking his 88th career relief appearance. DeBold ranks sixth on UM’s career list for relief appearances and is two appearances shy of tying Allan Westfall (1994-96) at for fifth-place with 90 appearances.
Miami recorded four relief appearances tonight and has 217 relief appearances this season extending its NCAA single-season record.
George Huguet made his 43rd relief appearance of the season and recorded his 14th save of the season. Huguet ties the UM freshman record for saves in a season tying Robbie Morrison in 1996. The 43 appearances ranks in a tie for third on UM single season list.
